Spain’s Ministry of Equality awards Urbaser the “Equality in Business” award for its global commitment

In an important step towards consolidating its commitment to diversity and equality, Urbaser has been awarded the “Equality in the Company” distinction by the Spain’s Ministry of Equality. This recognition highlights Urbaser’s hard work and significant contributions to fostering an inclusive and equitable work environment.

The Distinctive “Equality in the Company” or DIE, as it is colloquially called, is a mark of excellence that recognizes companies and other entities that stand out in the development of Equality policies between women and men in the workplace, through the implementation of equality plans and measures. In this sense, this distinction is the only public one at state level and only 171 companies have been awarded it since 2010.

With a track record that evidences its ongoing commitment to education and awareness of gender equality, Urbaser has provided more than 60,000 hours of training in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) globally in the last three years and more than 30,000 in the last year 2023 alone. More than 50,000 people around the world have benefited from these training programs in the last three years, highlighting the wide influence and reach of Urbaser’s initiatives.

In addition, since 2011, Urbaser has been actively negotiating with trade union organizations to develop and strengthen three equality plans. These plans, approved in 2022 and applicable to more than 19,000 employees, contain a total of 413 measures designed to achieve equal treatment and opportunities between women and men, as well as to eliminate gender discrimination by 2026.

All these initiatives are aligned with the commitments established in Urbaser’s Corporate Equality and Diversity Policy, which was approved in July 2019 and reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to creating a work environment where diversity is valued, equality is a reality and discrimination has no place.
