Social Enterprise
A Social Enterprise (SE) is more than just a way to help people with disabilities enter the job market.
An SE is a business that takes part in regular market activity and productive work, with a range of important goals.
Its purpose is to support people with physical, intellectual, mental, or sensory disabilities to find work and promote social inclusion and understanding.
An SE is a business that takes part in regular market activity and productive work, with a range of important goals. An SE aims to:
- Ensure people with disabilities find suitable paid work based on their individual strengths
- Offer personal and social support to people with disabilities in employment
- Increase the number of workers with disabilities in mainstream jobs
The main goal of an SE is to promote access to the job market for people with physical, intellectual, mental, or sensory disabilities. It also helps raise awareness and support wider social inclusion.
SE businesses work in the open market, selling goods and services like any other company.
One key feature is that at least 70% of the workforce must be people with a recognised disability of 33% or more.

Who can work in an SE?
You can work in a Social Enterprise (SE) if you:
- have a recognised disability rating of 33% or more
- receive a pension for absolute incapacity or severe disability
- Up to 30% of staff in an SE can be people without a disability.
If you have a disability and want to work in an SE, you must be registered as a job seeker at the Employment Office in your Autonomous Community.
