In its commitment to offset its carbon footprint, Urbaser has reached an agreement with the City Council of Arganda del Rey (Madrid), whereby the latter has granted Urbaser during the next 4 years a 5.3 hectare plot of land to plant and maintain around 4,200 trees, all of them selected for being species typical of the area and highly efficient in carbon sequestration.<\/p>\n
The initiative is part of the environmental protection activities that the company carries out in Spain. Thanks to the Urbaser forest in Arganda, the company will be able to offset part of its CO2 emissions.<\/p>\n
In the next months, the planting of more than 4,000 trees will be carried out and, during three years, Urbaser will carry out the maintenance and replanting works necessary to guarantee the correct management of the forest. The plot is located in a specially protected non-developable rustic land, in the Southeast Regional Park, thus contributing to the regeneration and conservation of a natural area rich in biodiversity and to the recovery of a degraded natural space.<\/p>\n
For the selection of the species, climatology, edaphic characteristics of the soil, orography and specific composition of the existing vegetation cover have been taken into account. The species are: Stone pine (pinus pinea), olive tree (olea europaea), Holm oak (quercus ilex), queijo (quercus faginea), almond tree (prunus dulcis), hawthorn (crataegus monogyna) and elm (Ulmus minor).<\/p>\n
With this measure, the company supports its commitment to the creation of green and sustainable spaces in cities (SDG11) and climate action (SDG 13).<\/p>\n
