Urbaser, the global environmental services company, has increased its international expansion in three countries; having been awarded urban cleaning and waste management contracts worth €1 billion in India, Colombia and Ecuador.

New contract awarded in India

Urbaser, in collaboration with Sumeet, has extended its presence in India with the award of the urban cleaning contract in the state of Chennai, in the south of the country, for a period of 8 years.

The contract, valued at approximately 480 million euros, is the biggest every awarded to the Spanish company at global level and includes urban street cleaning and waste management in seven of the nine districts of Chennai, a region with more than 3.7 million inhabitants and an area of 207 square kilometres.

Leading operator on the American continent

In Ecuador, Urbaser has taken over waste management and street sweeping and cleaning services in the city of Santiago de Guayaquil on the Pacific coast.

The services will be delivered through the Urvaseo consortium, comprised of the companies Urbaser and Valango, and are worth around 360 million euros. The contract, for a term of 7 years and 6 months, will ensure collection of solid, non-hazardous waste throughout the city of Guayaquil, the largest and most populous city in the Republic of Ecuador, with a population of close to 2.7 million people.

The service also encompasses the management of waste in some rural areas of the territory.

In Colombia, Urbaser was awarded the contract as the new operator of the urban cleaning service in the city of Montería, in the north of the country. With 280 employees the company assumes the management of close to 16,500 tonnes of waste annually, providing services to a population of 120,000 users. With this contract, Urbaser assumes a total of 10 operations in Colombia.

With the award of these new contracts, Urbaser consolidates its expansion on the American continent and is also a leading waste management services operator in countries like Chile, Argentina and Mexico.
