At Urbaser, we have sponsored the 1st Edition of the Recircula Challenge tournament. This project is organised by the Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña (UPE), and involves various teams of university students considering creative circular economy solutions to urgent, real-life challenges in order to achieve sustainable development.

The UPE stands out as a leading university for STEM studies (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Its student body includes individuals with high-level skills in fields essential to developing responses to emerging social and environmental needs.

For this reason, we have chosen to back the project, with Urbaser Innovation Director Eduardo Fernández acting as part of the judges panel. “For us, the Recircula Challenge was established as a direct line of contact with university students that provides us with a new perspective for producing new ideas in the push towards a sustainable economy”.

At Urbaser, we believe in young talent. That is why we are proud to have taken part in this project, and to be able to express the importance of the circular economy to younger generations. Our hope is to foster the innovative spirit of students, and teach them how to focus this positive energy towards projects that improve quality of life while still protecting the environment, just as we do here at Urbaser.

But… what actually is the Recircula Challenge?

The Recircula Challenge is a competition in which various inter-disciplinary teams of university students propose circular economy solutions to the real-life challenges we face. This year’s challenge was plastic film and plastic bag waste, but the challenge will change with each edition.

Urbaser, today for tomorrow.
